Beninghove’s Hangmen is an instrumental downtown NYC-based sextet with a truly unique yet familiar sound. Their “creeptastic surf-noir” approach developed from a desire to mash the music of Tom Waits and Danny Elfman. But with the menacing yet playful instrumentation of two rock guitarists, saxophone, trombone, bass, and drums, the result is more of a psycho-crazed soundtrack to a Tarantino film. They have been called “NYC’s most cinematic noir band” (NY Music Daily).
Celebrate with the Hangmen on their upcoming releases, "Pineapples & Ashtrays" and their Led Zeppelin tribute EP, "ZOHOVE"!
Their last self-released EP “Rattlesnake Chopper” comes at the heels of the critically-acclaimed first album, the self-titled “Beninghove’s Hangmen”. New York Music Daily rated it “#7: 50 Best Albums of 2011” and Lucid Culture placed it “#3: Top 25 Jazz Albums of 2011”. Songs from the album have been featured on Comedy Central, IFC, and more.
The music is composed by saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist, Bryan Beninghove. The band consists of guitarists Eyal Maoz and Dane Johnson (both John Zorn alum), trombonist Rick Parker (Tim Berne), Shawn Baltazor on drums, and Ezra Gale (Super Hi-Fi) on bass.
